Twitter online persona feat. celebrities

Let’s be real, we all love to see what our favourite celebrity has been up to on twitter today, and what interesting things they have to say. Would you say a celebrities online twitter persona is an accurate representation of themselves? I definitely feel as though celebrities are able to use twitter as a platform of self promotion or opinions that reach a large audience base.

Twitter is a great platform that can be used to express everything from personal opinions, politics and what you had for dinner last Sunday. When I started up my twitter account, it took me a while to work out what online persona I’d like to have for myself and what content I was going to publish.

Cool thing about twitter is the use of hashtags too! Hashtags allow a certain type of ‘tag’ or category of information to be found easily. They can also be used to connect with people online with the same interests or views as you. Twitter is pretty powerful!

Celebrities definitely go far beyond “self-promotion” and “opinions” online. The twitter feeds of most celebrities are, in my opinion, micro-managed for marketing purposes, for tricking their fans into thinking that they are just as accessible as they are, all the while training them to buy and consume. It’s all apart of the great distraction that celebrity is— just think about how many important news events we’ve had to miss out on hearing because the world’s too busy dissecting Kylie Jenner’s latest twitter update.
